    Part of the Lend Lease agreement between GB and the USA was that the British would give the Americans all the new and secret development they were working. One of it was the radar and I think penicillin as well. Maybe the jet engine as well. I have never seen a full list.

  • @mortanos8938

    This list is missing some of the more important invention and discoveries such as the Jet engine (Hans von Ohain) for which the English now take credit (Frank Whittle), or rocket propulsion (Werner von Braun) which led to space travel, so I fail to grasp why they are not up there and instead you have the inventor of a feckin coffee filter. That's Bollocks ! Btw. James Clerk Maxwell was indeed Scottish.

    The government isnt the (biggest) problem, but whats looming at the horizon is frightening. To name just one example, during the Self-ID law debate, both the literal nazis as well as the "conservatives" didnt give any Fs about truthfulness and facts. Even worse they advocated against rights of people. If the conservatives say "We cant risk social peace over [human rights of] a minority" that gives off 1930s vibes. The mustached mad man got elected by the same people and the first people prosecuted were queer folks... History repeats itself and nobody gives a F. And the majority of the media lies to get clicks. The new statistics were just released, there was yet again an increase in violence against queer people. Same as in on TERF Island (formerly known as the UK), even the same weak a$$ "report" being cited. If you exclude 101/103 studies you dont need to read it at all, but its still being used to spread hate.

    I would say the formal "you" in Germany would be an equivalent to the english "sir" or "ma'am" after the sentence. So it's like turning "You're a wanker" into "You're a wanker, sir."

    28:40 That is actually not correct. Reducing the voting age was debated, but strongly opposed by conservatives, and is still "on hold". But at the elections to the European parliament it will be 16, and the state of Baden-Württemberg (where she lives) has reduced the voting age to 16 for state and local elections (active suffrage). This year are for the first time 16 year olds are even the first time eligible for election (passive suffrage) in local elections. Imho the number of politically immature 18 years olds is about the same as the number of politically mature 16 years olds.

    From what she's saying, I guess this video was made pre- Ukraine war. I can only speak for myself here. I don't trust in the German government anymore for like 10 years now and our current government ("die Ampel", referring to the colours of the coalition's parties: red, yellow and green) made it even worse. They ruined our economy, inflation kicked in, then all their false and corrupt decisions during the pandemic, the enforcement of vaccinations especially on medical workers (which I luckily managed to sneak around, so I'm still unvaxxed). Now it goes on with them sending weapons to Ukraine while calling everyone who's pro- peace and against weapon shipments "right-wing" right away, as well as everyone who criticises their politics in any way. Plus, as a new mum, I can tell that, due to higher prices for everything with the wages staying the same, people can barely afford living anymore. And yes, they still don't support families enough, even though it's a lot better than in the USA. Our politicians higher their own wages and earn between 15K to around 30K euros per month. That's nearly double as much as I get at the moment. Per YEAR. They don't care about people's problems because they barely know what the real life is like. Chancellor Scholz recently admitted that he doesn't know the current fuel prices because he doesn't refuel himself (his employees do that for him). And he apparently doesn't know how to hammer a nail into a board. After 16 years of chancellor Merkel and nearly 3 years of the "Ampel", Germany is down to it's knees. Freedom of speech is only granted to you if you have the "right" opinion. If you're not consenting in any way, they'll find ways to silence or defame you. Same goes for certain political parties (like AfD and Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht) which have a different view of things and want to make politics dedicated to the people. The government wants to raise the taxes even more because they "don't have enough money". On the other hand, they gift millions of euros to immigrants who have never paid a single penny into the German tax pot or our social systems, build bicycle lanes in Peru and spend money on "Development Assistance" for China and India (I mean, come on. They don't need it! They're probably far ahead of us economically). You can see why I don't like our government and I probably mentioned many points that were not in the video. And no, I don't look forward to the European soccer championship taking place in Germany this year, when our national team will wave the rainbow flag because showing the German flag is "rechts" and 90% of the players don't know our national anthem. They'll make Europe and the entire world mock us again...

      I have to add some points about the electoral process in Germany. 1. No, I don't think that lowering the voting age to 16 was a good decision, because those kids (fight me, but they are) don't have that much insights into the real life yet and therefore don't really think about what they're voting for or they can be influenced too much. 2. Many political parties are not always expanding the political spectrum, if almost all of them are left/ leftist, there's not really a "middle class representative" party (the CDU represented the middle part of the spectrum for decades, but they also swooped further left by now) and the one political party on the right/ conservative side of the spectrum is constantly being bashed on. But a healthy democracy needs a political spectrum which goes from left to right as well as a wide spectrum of opinions, which is currently not the case in Germany. 3. I would describe myself as "middle- conservative" and therefore I don't really feel represented in German politics, except by the AfD. 4. About the electoral outcome, especially with the EU as well as several communal and state elections coming up this year: All other parties have denied a coalition with the AfD in advance, and that's what they always do. So even if the AfD became the strongest party by public votes, they might still end up in the opposition. Well, unless they'd get 50+% of the votes which would be enough for them to make a single- party government. Therefore I don't trust in the voting system here, because due to coalition formations, there might be a party in power, which only got slightly over 5% of the votes (under 5% of the votes and the party wouldn't even be represented in the parliament), while another party with 20% or more of the votes will be in the opposition. I think it would be better if the 2 (or 3) strongest parties would form the government, because that would be a government according to the public votes.

    Btw Pispers usually commented on german interior politics and policies until he stepped back in 2014 or 2015 (missing him much), rather than on international politics. • @BlauerBooo
    @BlauerBooo 2 дні тому

    Take in mind this was filmed in 2004 or 2005. Merkel back then was the 'rising star' of the Christian Democratic Union in Germany, still in opposition, but to be the next candidate of chancellor for the conservatives. In 2002 she had to step back for the bavarian sister party's Edmund Stoiber of CSU, also named here. 2005 she entered and - won against Gerhard Schröder from center left SPD. But in times of this video she was in opposition, not yet chancellor, and made headlines with her CDU party for their party programme being especially market-liberal and conservative in contrast to CDU-standards set by Merkel in later years as a chancellor. Later on people said she just gave up the ideological points after becoming chancellor in 2005. Despite a leading position in polls her party just came out 0,x percentage points of the vote turnout in 2005 before the ruling SPD. That's why Merkel abolished distinguished political positions and turned to a more moderating and presidential style in her years of government - not yet known at the point Pispers is commenting here in this video.

    I think 16yo are not old enough to really make an informed decision. But also 90yo are often too old, that hey don't understand anymore what really happens in the world, so they can not do an informed decision, too. Also a lot of people don't take the time to inform themselves deep enough. As you can see with the brexit, many just take information from news headlines as source. That's not enough. I think 16yo is old enough to vote, not because they know already everything, but because they have learned the tools to inform themselves, they already have enough distance from their parents to do their own decision. And even though it's maybe not as informed as one would wish, I think it's important to give them more power, to let their voices be more heard. I would say taking an informed decision is a standard many people don't fulfill. So it is overrated.

    Always gotta be careful listening to the interpretation of statistics from someone who isn't an expert, often it reflects their personal view more then anything else. IMO you've got to be especially careful when that persons views align with your own, because that's where you let your guard down, and it can amplify stereotypes which can lead to the divide between people she was talking about.

    Fun fact: We usually don't call it "protest" unless things are about to get heated. We call it "Demo" as in Demonstration. And this word in German also means to present something to the public. These Demos don't have to be "against something", they can be means to raise an issue or convey a public demand. Like Students often demonstrate for better schools. Or safer streets.

    0:45 So there is not realy a formal variant, but there is a formal "you". Police officers or strangers in general are addressed with this formal "you" word. So the joke about the matter was that the person first simply said "you ***" to the policeman and then corrected himself with the formal you form so "Sie***" Because it is not polite to address officials without this formal you form 😅😂

    In Russia, the stereotype of Russians going on vacation is that they get drunk, but then they don't get sick like Brits, oh no, Russians go on drunken shenanigans, scaring away all sharks infesting local waters, jumping into fountains, and doing other random stuff. Also, trying to explain the staff what they want in poor English, but with Russian creativity. A joke told by Russian comedian Zadornov: a Russian tourist with very poor knowledge of English finds a mouse in his hotel room, he calls the staff: "Hello, I need help" - "Yes, sir, what seems to be the trouble?" - "You know Tom and Jerry?" - "- "Yes. sir" - "So, Jerry is here".

    German is an Federal State, so "the Germans" are differing a lillte by location. We always were different tribes in the history believing in electing the best as chief. It also went terrible wrong when there was only 1 Ruler... nowadays there is a lot of influencing e.g. Russia is supporting right and left; Katar is supporing islamic media; young people are radicalising for environmental activists - a good reason and glue on the streets... but nowadays we have shared power in the country, so all the influencing will not change the idea of democracy and a federal state ;-)

  • @eisikater1584
    @eisikater1584 3 дні тому

    There are three things about the German voting system which probably increase trust in the government: 1) In a Bundestagswahl (federal election), you have TWO votes: One for a person who you think would represent your district, and the second (more important) vote for a party whose list of candidates is published long before the election. 2) The multi-party system instead of just a bilateral one. It mostly forces parties to work on a Koalitionsvertrag (coalition contract) and form a coalition in order to have a majority in government, so there must be compromises, and as this all is public, voters can check whether "their" party represented their interests well or rather not so and decide otherwise next time. 3) The Bundeskanzler (federal chancellor, head of government) is NOT directly elected by the people. The parties decide on one person to represent them, and of course there are TV debates among the candidates, and people say, "I vote for [person]", but in fact, you vote for the party and what they stand for, not the chancellor. I admit that German campaigning has become somewhat Americanized in recent years, but it still isn't so personality-centered as in the U.S., and that keeps things a little bit calmer and down to more rational thinking.

    The statistics from the USA cannot be directly transferred to German political spheres. The reason why ALL right-wing individuals trust the government more than left-wing individuals is less about the government itself and more about the associated power. Personally, I have an extremely pronounced left-leaning political ideology. If I were inclined to rule over others and tell them what to do, I couldn't be left-wing. On the other hand, right-wing individuals aspire to power, to a monopoly on force. This applies regardless of whether we are talking about the average street Nazi or even Hitler himself. For a leftist, the most important thing is to allow every individual to live as they see fit, respecting other cultures and religions and not exerting pressure to conform and assimilate. Right-wing ideology, on the other hand, is essentially based on telling others what to do from a position of power. And since it is ultimately the government and the legislation associated with it that imposes rules on a country, right-wing individuals are inevitably tied to their parties or their political authority.

  • @BernhardGiner
    @BernhardGiner 3 дні тому

    German: Trust is a big word. I trust in our democratic system as a whole, of which the government is a part. I also appreciate that here coalitions are necessary to form governments. Every part of our system controls every other part. Every democratic party should be able to make compromises with any other democratic party. (Extremists are excluded; because you can't make compromises with people who want to take away our human rights and so our democracy.)

    • @to.l.2469
      @to.l.2469 2 дні тому

      I agree with you completely. But I would leave out the compromises a little. A party don't have to make compromises if "red lines" have been crossed and still be not extreme. What shouldn't happen, however, is like you said that you have to be unable *able* to make compromises. "Is unable to do compromises" is difficult to define. How do you differentiate between not able and not wanting? Otherwise it would be called something like a hardliner party. (Which often applies to both parties, but doesn't necessarily have to apply. Extremism in Germany is, as you sad, only defined as intentions that are directed against one of the basic principles of the state: human dignity, the principle of democracy and the rule of law.)

      @@to.l.2469 Right, it's not about whether a party can or wants to compromise. There are procedures for this, such as the election of the Federal Chancellor, a constructive vote of no confidence or new elections. This is provided for in our constitution(s). Politics is just the way (the art) of finding majorities (on the basis of the law and the constitution). Extremism is really about whether a party wants to destroy the democratic order like the separation of powers and take away our basic rights. (like human dignity, the principle of equality, free, equal and secret elections, etc.) - i.e. about our basic democratic order. Article 20 of the Grundgesetz (Constitution) says (1) "The Federal Republic of Germany is a democratic and social federal state. (...)") The AfD, for example, talks about denying social assistance to those in need, depriving people who are dependent on state benefits of the right to vote, depriving people of their citizenship so that they can be deported - things like that are extremism. To use a (rough) analogy: You can't negotiate with someone about whether they murder you or not. In my opinion this persons simply belongs in prison because of threats, intimidation or something like that. In any case, you don't give him a weapon - or, even worse, let him write the law and let him control the police and the courts.

    The "Bohemian Browser Ballet" doesn't just make these videos for fun. Rather, they are artistic or satirical reactions to the current mood in the country. For example, the video shown here responds to the fact that opposition parties use misinformation to politically oppose the Greens. Take, for example, the issue of meat consumption: In March 2023, an independent nutrition institute in Germany sparked a debate suggesting that for healthy eating, one should only consume 10 grams of meat per day. In August, a Green Party politician publicly echoed this recommendation. Not for nutritional reasons, but for environmental protection. The sensationalist media in Germany, such as the BILD newspaper, and opposition parties then simply claimed that the Greens want to ban meat consumption. And because they shout much louder than any individual politician, this quickly became the prevailing sentiment in Germany: The Greens want to take away our good life! That this statement is not accurate and simply a lie to discredit or defame the Green Party no longer interests anyone. Because the laid-back German citizen doesn't bother to critically question and would rather listen to the loudest shouting they hear.

    First one; cunt = fotze. Wichser what he says means something like fapper or masturbater suggesting he had no woman in his life, but meant as an insult. Insulting human beings is illegal in germany as it deprives as person of his dignity. Human Dignity is secured in german rights.

    Freiburg is a University town: many students and students per se are more engaged in politics. However, there are many big Universities all over Germany, but the political engagement seem to differ depending on the main subjects the University is known for: law, economics, politics, science etc. as well as the main income source of the cities the Uni is located. E.g.: a citiy like Frankfurt am Main being the financial hub and mostly known for law and economy studens will not have the same "protest scene" as a city like Freiburg, Heidelberg, Mainz etc. Despite Frankfurt bringing the first "green" minister (Fischer) to power 😉 Please, continue your journey with "the Black forest familiy" now known as "Type Ashton". She is great.

    Another great sketch from Loriot titled "Herren im Bad". I found a version with subtitles, although a lot of the funny formalities are lost due to the translation. It's still worth watching though: ua-cam.com/video/DDQaP9bbf_o/v-deo.htmlsi=hynhgJM8cZmsnBtA
